Where our clients actually come from

Shade Studio sits on Brighton Avenue in Long Branch, a few blocks in from the ocean. Most of the people in our chairs are from Monmouth County. The rest, and it is a bigger share than most shore salons would guess, drive in from New York.

About forty percent of our clients travel from out of state to see us. Roughly half of our whole book comes down from Brooklyn, year round, and that number climbs in the summer when families are down the shore. If you are driving more than an hour, we would rather do the consultation before you get in the car than after.

Long Branch and the shore towns around us

  • Long Branch is where we are. The studio is at 131 Brighton Ave, a few blocks in from the ocean. Hair salon in Long Branch.
  • West Long Branch sits directly inland of us, around Monmouth University. It is a short drive and we already see clients who work there.
  • Deal is a few minutes south along the shore. It is the center of the Syrian Jewish community our owner is part of, and a lot of our book comes through it, especially over the summer.
  • Monmouth Beach is the next barrier beach north of us, over the Shrewsbury River. Ten minutes up Ocean Avenue outside of beach traffic.
  • Oceanport is just west, past Monmouth Park. Close enough that a color appointment does not eat the afternoon.
  • Eatontown is our Route 35 neighbor, the errand-running side of the area. Easy to fold an appointment into a trip you were already making.
  • Ocean Township covers Oakhurst and Wanamassa just south west of us, and is one of the closest inland townships to the studio.

Across the bridge, the river towns

  • Rumson is across the Shrewsbury River from us, roughly fifteen minutes over the bridge. Extensions and lived in color are what tends to travel from there.
  • Fair Haven sits beside Rumson on the river road, the same bridge and the same drive.
  • Little Silver is inland of the river towns and one train stop from the coast line, so it is an easy run either by car or rail.
  • Shrewsbury is straight up Route 35 from us, close enough that a root touch up is a lunch break rather than a day out.
  • Sea Bright is the narrow strip between the ocean and the river north of us. One road in and out, so we build in time when the summer traffic is bad.

New York

  • Brooklyn is where about half our clients come from, year round, and more of them through the summer when families are down the shore. They book longer single visits because of the drive, and we plan the day around that.
  • Manhattan sends a smaller but steady group out to us, most often for extensions and lived in color built to grow out slowly between visits.

Where exactly is Shade Studio?

We are at 131 Brighton Ave in Long Branch, New Jersey, a few blocks in from the ocean. We are open Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 10am to 4pm, and Thursday from 12pm to 7pm.

Do you take clients traveling in from out of state?

Constantly. Roughly forty percent of our clients travel from outside New Jersey, and about half of everyone we see comes down from Brooklyn. If you are driving in, book your consultation ahead so we can plan the appointment around your travel rather than around our calendar.

Is it worth the drive for extensions or a color correction?

That is the honest question to ask, and the answer depends on your hair. Book a consultation first. We will tell you what is realistic, how many sessions it will take, and what it costs before you commit to the drive.
