Why this chair

Shade Studio in Long Branch, New Jersey is hiring stylists. The single biggest thing we offer is the thing most salons cannot: a high end clientele that is already coming through the door, including a large share who travel in from out of state specifically for this studio.

That is not a recruiting line, it is the actual business. About forty percent of our clients come from outside New Jersey and roughly half the book drives down from Brooklyn. Shauna built that reputation over eighteen years and by name rather than by advertising. A stylist joining here works on that clientele from the start.

What you get

A book, not a blank page. One of our stylists came to us from Manhattan with no local clients and filled her column here. Another had three years behind the chair and is now taking a meaningful share of the studio's color work.

Education that is scheduled. Studio training days, in house classes run by the team, and support toward outside education. Our certifications are current because we keep going, not because we went once.

An owner who is present. Shauna is behind the chair, not in an office. You will get regular one to ones, clear expectations, and honest feedback rather than a review once a year.

Who we are looking for

Someone who is genuinely interested in getting better. That is the whole filter. We have hired experienced stylists and we have hired newer stylists, and the ones who have worked out have had that in common.

Practically: you show up on time and look the part, you write your tickets, you recommend what the client actually needs, and you rebook people because you want to see them again rather than because you were told to. If you specialize in extensions, color correction or precision cutting, we would particularly like to talk.

Are you hiring right now?

Yes. We are actively looking to add stylists. We would rather meet the right person early than fill a chair fast.

What level are you looking for?

Both ends. Experienced stylists who want a clientele that already walks in the door, and newer stylists who want to be trained properly rather than left to work it out. What we are not looking for is someone who has stopped learning.

Will I have to build my own book from nothing?

No, and this is the honest difference here. The studio's reputation brings high end clients through the door constantly, including a large share traveling in from out of state. One of our stylists came from Manhattan and filled her book here from zero.

Is there real education?

Yes, and it is structured rather than promised. Studio training days, in house classes, and support toward outside education. The certifications behind our chairs are current, not framed.

How do you handle pay?

We will talk that through honestly in person, including the path to earning more as your prices and your book grow. We are not going to put a number on a web page and pretend it fits everyone.

What is the culture actually like?

Small, calm and direct. Regular one to ones, clear expectations, and an owner who is behind the chair with you rather than in an office. If you want to be left alone to do whatever, this is not it. If you want to get better, it is.
