Shauna is incredible. She gave me exactly what I wanted, even better than I pictured. And the vibe at Shade Studio is just as amazing, calm, welcoming, and relaxed.

About our bridal & events work

Bridal hair at Shade Studio in Long Branch is always planned with a trial first, and priced by consultation. Event styling can be booked on its own. Book early for May through September: this is a shore town and wedding season fills fast.

Wedding hair is a different service from a nice blowout, and the difference is almost entirely planning. What holds on your hair, what works with your dress neckline, what survives a July afternoon on the shore, and what still looks like you in photographs you will keep forever. None of that gets solved on the morning.

So bridal here starts with a trial, and we do not book the day without one. That appointment is where we test what actually holds, look at your veil or pieces if you have them, and photograph the result so you can see it the way a camera will.

What to expect

The trial comes first. We talk through your dress, your venue and the time of year, then build the look and stress test it: does it hold, does it suit you from the back, does it photograph the way you expect. We take photos so you are not relying on memory.

Then we lock the timings for the day itself, working backwards from when you need to be ready rather than forwards from when we open.

On the day, hair goes on clean and dry. If your party is with you, we will have told you at booking exactly what we can staff and in what order.

Between appointments

Get your color done about two weeks before, not the week of. Book any smoothing treatment earlier still so it has settled.

Bring your veil and any pieces to the trial. A comb that will not sit properly is much easier to solve in April than on the morning.

You can see bridal and event work on our Instagram, which is where the newest work lands first.

Questions we actually get asked

Do I need a trial?

For bridal, yes, and we will not book the day without one. A trial is where we work out what holds on your hair, what suits your dress and how it photographs. Event styling usually does not need one.

How far ahead should I book?

Sooner than you think, especially May through September. We are a shore town and wedding season here fills early.

Can you do my bridal party?

Ask when you enquire and we will tell you honestly what we can staff. We are a small studio, so party size and timing decide what is possible.

Should I get my color done before the wedding?

Yes, and about two weeks out is the sweet spot. Fresh enough to look its best, with enough time to adjust if anything needs it.

What should I bring to the trial?

Photos, your veil or hair pieces if you have them, and a sense of your dress neckline. Come with clean, dry hair.

Do you travel to the venue?

Ask us. It depends on the date, the party size and where you are. We will give you a straight answer rather than a maybe.
