The method, and why this one

IBE means invisible bead extensions: hand tied rows on a beaded track, with no glue, no heat and no tape touching your own hair. Shade Studio's owner is IBE certified, and extensions are the most common reason clients travel in. Move ups run every six to eight weeks. Every extension service starts with a consultation and a color match in person.

IBE stands for invisible bead extensions. Wefts of hair are hand tied onto a beaded track that sits flat against the head. Nothing is glued, nothing is heated, and no tape touches your own hair. The track moves with you, which is why it stays comfortable through a full day rather than announcing itself by hour three.

This is the work Shade Studio is best known for, and it is the reason a large part of the book travels in rather than shopping locally. Roughly half our clients drive down from Brooklyn, and extensions are the most common reason. Shauna is IBE certified and Bellami certified, with eighteen years behind the chair.

What people come in for

For length
The obvious one. Real length without waiting two years for it, blended so the line where yours ends is not findable.
For density
The reason more people book than admit. If your hair is fine or has thinned, rows add body through the mid lengths and ends where it actually shows.
For grown out color
Extensions and color work together. We can place pre toned hair to carry dimension you would otherwise have to lift for.

How it works, start to finish

Everything starts with a consultation. We look at your density, your length, the condition of your ends and how you wear your hair, then match color in person. Hair is ordered specifically for you, which is why a deposit is taken at that appointment rather than on the day.

Install day runs several hours. Rows are placed, hand tied and then cut and blended into your own hair, which is the part that decides whether this looks like extensions or like hair. Blending is craft, not a step, and it is where the years behind the chair show.

Then a move up every six to eight weeks. Rows come down, get reset closer to the scalp, and go back in. That appointment is not optional. It is what keeps tension off your own hair.

Living with them

Brush from the ends up with a proper extension brush, never rip through from the root. Wash less often than you think, using a sulfate free shampoo, and keep conditioner off the rows themselves. Dry the tracks properly rather than going to bed damp.

Book your move up before you leave. Six to eight weeks arrives faster than it sounds and a late move up is the one thing that turns a gentle method into a damaging one.

What does IBE actually mean?

Invisible bead extensions. Rows of hair are attached to a beaded track that sits flat against your head, with no glue, no heat and no tape touching your hair. It is the method Shauna is certified in and the one most of our out of town clients come here for.

Will it damage my hair?

Installed and maintained properly, this is one of the gentler methods available, which is exactly why we use it. There is no adhesive and no heat. What causes damage is leaving a row in too long, so move ups are not optional if you want your own hair to stay healthy.

How often do I come back?

Every six to eight weeks for a move up, where the rows are taken down and reset closer to the scalp as your hair grows. Skipping it is the single most common way people end up with tension and breakage.

How long do the extensions themselves last?

With proper care, the hair itself is typically reused across several move ups before it needs replacing. How long depends almost entirely on how you brush, wash and heat style it.

Do I need a consultation first?

Yes, always. We need to see your density, your length and your hair's condition in person, and match color properly. Extensions are never booked off a text message.

Can I still put my hair up?

Yes. Rows are placed so they stay hidden in a ponytail, and placement is mapped to how you actually wear your hair. Tell us at the consultation if you live in a high ponytail, because it changes where the rows go.
